Happy Teachers Day

Teachers Day used to be fun in school days. We used to wait for 5th September to come every year. No study was one of the main reasons at that timeJ; but it also meant that the seniors would be taking the classes for that one day. Of course they wouldn’t be teaching; it was more of fun and games session. And we would be giving cards to our favorite teachers. When we were younger we would be making cards; and as we grew older we would buy cards. Those were really wonderful days.

When we moved from school to college, the charm for Teachers day lessened. There were still your favorite teachers whom you wished and gave cards; but it was nothing like it used to be in schools.

Once college got over it became just 5th September. It is still celebrated as the Teachers day but for most it became just another day.

Today it happens to be 5th September i.e. Teachers Day. Every year I wish my favorite teachers on this day and thank them for the lessons they taught us without actually saying it to them. When I think of teachers a few names pop-up quickly like Ratna Chakravarthy madam who was my class teacher in class I, Kinra madam who taught us English in class IX and X, Roma Das madam who was the class teacher in class XI and XII (who being biology teacher never taught me anything as I had taken computers), Computer Science madam (I forgot her name L) in class XI and XII and so on.

Then there were the ones in B.Tech whose name I don’t recall now but remember the subjects they taught which included VLSI, OS, Microprocessor, DCN.

Then there were some during MBA whom I fondly remember like Dr Shekhar (whom our gang used to call Anna), Meenakshi madam who taught Retail Marketing, Sanjay Dhingra sir who took all the IT subjects and was also my project guide.

Usually people remember those teachers about whom they can joke around, with whom they didn’t have a good relation, those who just couldn’t teach, had a weird accent, had a peculiar way of teaching, didn’t pronounce a few words correctly, made grammatical errors, etc. Basically teachers are remembered for all the wrong reasons. But then most people have some teacher(s) whom they remember fondly for all the good reasons and those are the teachers one really respects. And on this day those are the teachers who are remembered.

Apart from the teachers I have already mentioned there are others who teach us without actually enrolling us in any course; those who are part of our day to day life and who give us valuable lessons in life. Yes I am talking about those people who give you valuable inputs in different facets of life. They maybe your friends, foes, even strangers. You don’t have a teacher-student relationship with them, but you still learn a lot from them.

I would take this opportunity to thank all such people from whom I have learned valuable lessons in the past one year especially Shubhi, Hina Dikshit, Minakshi Bajaj, Saurav Gupta, Navdeep and Pooja Malhotra.

Wishing you all a Happy Teachers Day.
